Handhelds lead console sales in Japan

Sony's PSP and Nintendo's DS are leading sales of hardware in Japan, according to the latest figures from Media Create.

Sony's portable sold 56,439 units for the week ended July 6, while Nintendo's DS hit 47,455 units for the same period.

With home consoles, the Wii was way out in front, selling 44,525 units, while Sony's PlayStation 3 shifted 14,359 units.

The PlayStation 2 sold 11,768 while Microsoft's Xbox 360 limped behind with 4776 units.
