Gusto Games closes Derby studio

UK independent makes all staff redundant, but Oxford studio remains open

Gusto Games, best known for porting work on Xbox versions of the Championship Manager series, has closed its Derby office, GamesIndustry.biz can reveal.

The company closed down the studio on January 7, making all 14 members of staff redundant. Gusto's office in Banbury, Oxfordshire, remains open and continues business as normal.

Recently, the developer has ventured into the children's market with Wii titles Goosebumps Horrorland and Ultimate I SPY.

Gusto becomes the latest UK outfit to lay off staff amid tough economic conditions.

TimeSplitters and Haze developer Free Radical Design has let 140 team members go and is currently in administration, while Oxygen Games has put its London studio up for sale as it steps away from internal games development.
