GDC: Rock Band hits 3m downloads

Music action title adds another 500,000 in the past month

EA's group music title Rock Band has hit 3 million downloads for additional tracks in the US, says Eran Egozy from the game's developer Harmonix.

The title, due in Europe later this year, enables games to play drums, guitars and sing alongside each other to tracks on-screen - a development of the experience first introduced by Harmonix with the original Guitar Hero for the PlayStation 2.

The company had announced the 2.5 million downloads mark had been surpassed by the middle of January, but now that figure has grown again - impressive for a title only available at the moment in North America since its release in November.

The revelation came during the Microsoft keynote at this year's Game Developers Conference, taking place in the Moscone Center, San Francisco.
