GameTap shuts down editorial department

Turner Broadcasting System's GameTap service has decided to shut down its editorial and video branches.

"While we have been very happy with the work done by our editorial and video teams, we've made a decision to focus the business on our biggest strength, which is our game catalog," said VP of content Ricardo Sanchez on the company's forums.

"As a result, we will be restructuring the site to focus exclusively on gameplay."

Last year, GameTap hired veterans of IGN, GameSpot, GamePro and the Official PlayStation Magazine to run its new editorial team.

According to Wired.com, all GameTap employees who aren't running the games service will be let go in mid-June.
