Games for Windows Live fees dropped

Microsoft has dropped subscription fees for Games for Windows Live multiplayer services.

The company also plans a PC service similar to Xbox Live Marketplace, offering demos, trailers, gameplay content and more from first and third-party publishers, due later this year.

Games for Windows Live originally charged for matchmaking and cross-platform gaming when it first launched in 2007.

The Games for Windows Live in-game interface is also due a revamp later this year, to make it more user-friendly for the consumer and less tech-heavy for developers.
