Games Eden ready to go

Games Eden, a games industry networking organisation that is being set up for companies in Cambridge, England, and the surrounding area, will be launched tonight.

Games Eden, a games industry networking organisation that is being set up for companies in Cambridge, England, and the surrounding area, will be launched tonight.

The body, which includes representatives from Frontier Developments, Jagex, Ninja Theory and others, is being established to give its members a better chance to discuss industry issues and promote the companies on a wider stage.

Chairman Jeremy Cooke, of Gameware, told GamesIndustry.biz that the area was a key location for the games development world.

"The fact of the matter is that around Cambridge there's a very large game development community which is unrecognised in the rest of the country, and indeed globally," he said.

"In fact, in the region there's close to 1000 people employed in the games industry locally - partly thanks to Jagex and their 400 plus - but it's a not insignificant amount of people."

The launch will take place in Cambridge, and the event will be hosted by technology expert Bill Thompson, with David Braben and Andy Serkis (of Heavenly Sword) due to address the gathering.
