GAME appoints Morgan as new CEO

Former deputy takes on top job

High street retailer GAME has announced that deputy chief executive Lisa Morgan will take over from Martin Long as CEO at the end of the month.

Morgan joined the GAME group in 1997 and was appointed to the board three years later, becoming deputy CEO in January 2004. She will begin her new role on October 31 but, according to a statement issued by the company, Long "will continue to be available to support the group until January 2007".

Replacing Morgan as deputy CEO will be David Thomas, who will also continue in his role of group finance director.

Long has worked at GAME for 13 years, during which time the chain has expanded from 16 UK stores to almost 800 stores in eight countries. According to chairman Peter Lewis, "He has been instrumental in the growth and success of GAME, which is now the clear market leader in Europe.

"Given the group's current strong trading position and excellent future prospects, the board and Martin have agreed that now is the right time to make a change," Lewis continued.

"The board is confident that a combination of Lisa's retail experience, aligned with David Thomas' City and financial background, will ensure that GAME is well placed to deliver on its UK and international growth plans."
