Gaikai raises venture capital of $5 million

Capital raised for Dave Perry's cloud gaming service

Dave Perry has raised venture capital funding of USD 5 million for his cloud gaming service Gaikai, according to a US SEC filing submitted this week.

Further details of the investment haven't been released, but Mitch Lasky, a veteran of the mobile, new media and interactive entertainment industries, has been named on the filing.

The once executive VP of Activision currently serves as a general partner at investment firm Benchmark Capital, suggesting Benchmark's involvement with the funding.

A closed beta for the Gaikai service was launched in Europe late last year.

With the service, Perry has said he plans to make game accessibility easier for consumers.

"If the iPhone App store has taught us anything, when you make it easy to check things out, you get a billion downloads," he has said previously.
