Future stands behind PC Zone and NGamer

Despite drop in sales, specialist publisher will continue to print monthly titles

Future Publishing has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that it will continue to print monthly titles PC Zone and NGamer despite a drop in sales for both magazines.

ABC results for last year show that unofficial Nintendo magazine NGamer saw sales drop 29.8 per cent year-on-year to 12,299 copies a month in 2009 – by comparison sales of the Official Nintendo Magazine slid 12.8 per cent to 51,271.

PC Zone was much harder hit, with sales down 40.3 per cent, to 11,357 issues a month.

"Future’s print strategy is to be market leader in every games category and have a strong second purchase title," offered James Binns, publishing director at Future. "NGamer and PC Zone are part of this strategy."

While sales of print magazines are down across the board, the company is set to launch a new digital initiative with Sony in March – FirstPlay will be available weekly over the PlayStation Network, and counts former editor of Official PlayStation Magazine Tim Clark and ex-NGamer editor Nick Ellis on the editorial team.
