ESA Foundation pledges $1m grant
The ESA Foundation, the Entertainment Software Association's charitable arm, has announced that nine organisations will be the recipients USD 1 million in grants.
The art therapy group Animation Project, and HopeLab Foundation, the developer of games designed to boost cancer patients confidence in managing the disease, are among the organisations to receive part of the grant.
Also set to receive funding will be PAX, an anti-violence group that aims to help youths prevent violence in their communities, and ThanksUSA, which provides an online resource for teaching American values and history, as well as an environmental-living advocacy group for kids, WGBH.
The internet safety program, Web Wise Kids, will also receive part of the grant, as will the Federation of American Scientists, an organisation offering solutions to science education in schools. The economics education project, One Economy Corporation, and online and e-learning organisation, National Institute on Media and the Family, will also be funded through the grant.
"We are pleased to help these organisations address such critical social issues," said Michael Gallagher, president and CEO of the Entertainment Software Association. "The creativity and commitment of these recipients gives us a glimpse into the countless ways technology, including video games, can be used to improve the quality of life of our young people."
