Middleware company Emergent Game Technologies, best known for the Gamebryo series of 3D game engines, has announced better than expected results for its first quarter ending March 31, 2010.

The company already saw a 58 per cent increase in profitability at the end of the last financial year, as restructuring changes and an update to flagship product Gamebryo LightSpeed had a positive effect on business.

The company experienced growth in all territories but saw the fastest expansion in North American and Asian markets.

"I stand behind my previous comments that 2010 will be a record year for Emergent. Developers have confidence in our technology, and this has been validated by the number of companies signing deals to begin development on LightSpeed," said CEO Scott M Johnson.

"Emergent is comprised of driven people and the company is hitting on all cylinders right now. Expect big things from Emergent as we make additional moves to solidify a leadership position," he added.

Emergent technology has been used in more than 300 projects, with clients including Electronic Arts, Activision, Take-Two, Bethesda, Capcom and Sony Online Entertainment.
