ELSPA backs Government obesity plans

£372m scheme to help parents manage gaming time

ELSPA has backed a plan by the UKs Department of Health to reduce obesity in children.

Part of the GBP 372 million action plan is aimed at the entertainment industry to establish a working group charged with looking at ways 'to allow parents to manage the time that their children spend watching TV or playing sedentary games, online and much more widely'.

"We look forward to working with the department on strategies to help in the education and support of parents and children," said Paul Jackson, director general of ELSPA.

"We as an industry wish to encourage healthy lifestyles and will therefore also take the opportunity of informing the government of the huge amount of active gaming devices and games which offer more active and interactive play," he added.

GamesIndustry.biz is the world's most read and influential games industry website. But don't just take our word for it!

"GamesIndustry.biz is one of my starting tabs when I boot up... so it's always one of the first sites I see each day. It's good being able to catch up with what's happened in the US overnight, and in the UK before I'm awake first thing, and know that the stories will be accurate and thought out."
