EA's Hunicke departs for ThatGameCompany

Boom Blox producer and MySims lead designer to join the studio behind Flow and Flower

Electronic Arts' Robin Hunicke has departed from her role as producer and joined independent studio ThatGameCompany, according to online reports.

Hunicke served as producer on both the original Boom Blox and its sequel, Boom Blox Bash Party, which launched in the US this week. During her three and a half year tenure at EA, Hunicke also served as the lead designer of MySims for the Wii and as a designer on the Sims 2 expansion pack Open for Business.

"I want to reach new people, with new experiences, via the medium of games and the language of game design. TGC was founded with similar goals in mind, and is at the forefront of the indie movement as a result," Hunicke told Kotaku. "The blend of emotion and exploration they have achieved with their titles is what sets them apart."

Hunicke joins founders Kellee Santiago and Jenova Chen at ThatGameCompany, the independent studio behind PlayStation 3 titles Flow and Flower.
