EA to acquire Rupture for $30 million?

Electronic Arts is to acquire Rupture, the MMO social networking site established by Napster founder Shawn Fanning, according to a report by Tech Crunch.

Electronic Arts is to pay around USD 30 million, even though the site is still in its beta phase, says the report.

First revealed in late 2006, Rupture pulls stats from online games, collates player information and acts as a central communication hub for MMO players.

The Tech Crunch report states that Fanning and co-founder Jon Baudanza will now join Electronic Arts.

Electronic Arts has told GamesIndustry.biz it does not comment on rumours of mergers and acquisitions activity
