EA confirms new Command & Conquer spin-off

Tiberium two years in pre-production

Electronic Arts has officially confirmed a spin-off of its popular Command & Conquer franchise, Tiberium, for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3.

According to the publisher the blend of first-person shooter and tactical squad based gameplay has been in pre-production for two years at developer EA Los Angeles.

"EALA has a long history of developing ground breaking real-time strategy games with the Command & Conquer series," commented Mike Verdu, VP and general manager at EA Los Angeles. "That series also originally introduced the Tiberium universe to gamers worldwide."

"Now, we are growing Tiberium from a simple backdrop to a fully realised universe with its own unique, hybrid squad-based shooter gameplay. This is the birth of a new franchise â" we couldn't be more excited," he added.

The first Command & Conquer game was released eleven year's ago, with EA seeing success again early this year when Xbox 360 and PC title Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars shot to the top of the all formats charts.

Tiberium is due for release in Autumn 2008.
