DS regains Japan dominance

PSP breaks 2 million mark for the year; PS3, 360 show sales increases

The Nintendo DS has remained in the weekly sales hardware number one slot in Japan and extended its lead over the PlayStation Portable as the effect of the Slim and Lite launch wears off.

The DS sold 78,746 units last week, down over 9000 on the previous week, but that was still enough to trump the PSP's 59,584, as its numbers dropped by around 18,000.

The PlayStation 3 jumped around 20 per cent week on week to 12,365, according to information from Media Create for the sales week ending October 14, and Xbox 360 numbers also rose sharply from 1547 to 6161.

Meanwhile the Wii and PlayStation 2 remained static.

The sales chart in full:

1. Nintendo DS: 78,746

2. PlayStation Portable: 59,584
