Disney launches UK mobile games portal

The Walt Disney Internet Group has launched a new mobile games portal which will include around 60 arcade-style titles, many of which will be available to users without charge.

The games will be ad-supported, and include titles from franchises including Pirates of the Caribbean, and will sit on the Disney.co.uk mobile site along with other kinds of content, such as ringtones and wallpapers for other key Disney properties.

The company is hoping to use the portal to expand on its existing platforms, including the Pirates of the Caribbean MMO and Club Penguin, as well as other music, film and community content.

Cindy Rose, senior VP and MD, commented: "The launch of Disney.co.uk mobile epitomises our strategy of bringing Disney to families anytime and anywhere. Now guests can access the best of Disney in the palm of their hands while they are on the move."

Usage of the online version of Disney.co.uk has more than doubled since December last year as a result of new design and features on the site.
