Digital Economy bill passed by MPs
Measures including anti-piracy legislation and the adoption of PEGI make it through wash-up
The controversial Digital Economy bill has made it through Parliamentary wash-up - the period after a General Election but before the dissolution of Parliament - and will become UK law, following a voting majority of 142 in the House of Commons late last night.
The bill, which has angered a lot of MPs because of the way it's been rushed through the system at the last minute, includes a host of TV and internet-related measures, as well as new anti-piracy controls and the PEGI ratings system adoption.
The news means that the industry can now start gearing up for the change, which will include an education campaign for parents as well as the new symbology making it onto games boxes.
