Details emerge of WOW: Burning Crusade launch

Midnight events planned for UK, France, Germany and Sweden

Blizzard Entertainment has announced plans to hold four midnight launch events across Europe to promote new World of Warcraft expansion pack The Burning Crusade, which hits the shops on January 16.

The UK event will take place at HMV's flagship Oxford Street store, where designer Jon LeCraft will be on hand to sign copies of the expansion. Special edition versions will be available, and there will be pet and merchandise giveaways, demonstrations of the WOW trading card game and "preferential treatment" for those sporting the best WOW costumes. Doors will open at 11pm.

In France, the launch event will take place at Fnac's Champs Elysîes store, while in Germany it will be hosted by Media Markt on Berlin's Krumme StraÃe. A special event will also take place at EB Games on Hamngatan in Stockholm.

World of Warcraft is the most popular MMORPG around the globe, with more than 7.5 million players. The highly anticipated expansion pack offers a range of new features including a raised level cap, additional areas to explore and two new races.
