Capcom to publish on N-Gage in 2008

Nokia's platform returns

Nokia has announced that Capcom will be publishing games on its N-Gage mobile gaming platform in 2008.

"With our global reach, it's important to have strong, well respected global partners," said Gregg Sauter, Nokia's director of third party publishing.

"For many years, Capcom has been entertaining consumers around the world with exceptional gaming experiences. We've now reached a point with mobile technologies where companies like Capcom can deliver a whole new level of mobile entertainment," said Sauter.

Although no specific titles were announced, the director of Capcom's European mobile division, Yosuke Yoneda, said that the N-Gage would allow the company "to bring some of our most famous franchises to the platform."

Capcom has previously released mobile versions of properties such as Mega Man, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Phoenix Wright.

The original N-Gage, a hybrid handheld videogame cell phone, was released by Nokia in 2003 and discontinued in 2005.

This week, Nokia is reviving N-Gage as a multiplayer gaming service that will work on its line of smartphones, with games from publishers such as Electronic Arts. N-Gage games can be distributed digitally over the air through operator networks or over the internet to a user's PC.
