Blizzard opens European World of Warcraft beta

Closed beta, er, opens. But it's still closed. If you see what we mean.

Developer Blizzard has announced that its European closed beta test of World of Warcraft is set to begin today, giving European gamers a first (official) chance to try out the eagerly awaited MMORPG title.

The beta version of the game being trialled in Europe is currently based on the English language only, with German and French language versions to enter testing later, and is based on the most recent version of the game.

The first phase of beta testers, drawn by lottery from those who signed up for the test, is being notified by email of their inclusion today, and additional testers will be allowed into the game further down the line as new phases of testing begin.

World of Warcraft is expected to launch in the USA and South Korea later this year, with a European launch to follow in the early months of 2005.
