Blizzard expands WOW China deal

Blizzard Entertainment has expanded its license with The9, operators of World of Warcraft in China, to include the roll-out of the role-playing game’s second expansion Wrath of the Lich King.

The9, who also hold the operating license for Hellgate: London and FIFA Online 2, recently reported one million concurrent users playing World of Warcraft, Blizzard’s largest amount since its launch in 2005.

This surge in users was attributed to the previous expansion, The Burning Crusade, claiming it attracted old subscribers to return and new ones to sign up.

Blizzard recently released patch 2.4 for its MMO, which they say will be the last patch before Wrath of Lich King is released. The MMORPG's subscribership passed the ten million mark worldwide at the beginning of this year.
