Blizzard considers entry into handheld market

Publisher asks consumers' opinion on portable versions of Starcraft and Diablo II

US studio Blizzard Entertainment is currently considering adapting two of its most popular franchises for the new handheld consoles from Sony and Nintendo - and asking fans for their opinion on the matter.

The latest Blizzard Insider newsletter enquires as to whether readers would be interested in purchasing Nintendo DS or Sony PSP versions of Diablo II, providing a wireless multiplayer mode was included.

The newsletter also asks if there's a demand for Starcraft on the DS - but there's no mention of a PSP version.

If Blizzard receives a positive response and decides to go ahead with the proposed plans, it'll mark the first time the studio has developed titles for the handheld market.

Blizzard has previously published three GBA titles - Blackthorne, Rock 'n' Roll Racing and The Lost Vikings - but these were developed by California-based studio Mass Media.
