Australian game sales reach AUD 1.57 billion
Australia's videogame industry has recorded sales of AUD 1.57 billion (EUR 955m/ GBP 762m) for the last financial year, according to figures compiled by research firm GfK.
Sales of games software were up 55 per cent, while consoles titles improved 74 per cent. Combined sales for all games software, hardware and peripherals were up 52.9 per cent on last year.
"With sales of video and computer games increasing over 50 per cent over the last financial year, it is clear that interactive entertainment is now firmly entrenched as a mainstream activity," commented Ron Curry, CEO of the Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia.
"More people of all ages and all walks of life are now choosing video and computer games as a regular form of home entertainment," he added.
