Atari, Playlogic sign global distribution deal

Pirates RPG heading to US, Europe and Asia

Atari Entertainment has announced the signing of a new worldwide distribution deal with Playlogic to bring Akella's PC adventure Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales to market in three continents.

From the creators of PC titles including Age of Sail II, Sea Dogs and Pirates of the Caribbean, the new action-adventure RPG offers gamers the chance to experience a life of swashbuckling adventure on the 17th Century Caribbean seas.

Rick Mehler, Atari's director of marketing, commented: "Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales provides a deep role playing experience that encourages development of captain, crew, ships, towns, fighting abilities, weapons and more. It's an exciting title to add to our PC line-up."

The game features massive naval battles and sword fights, challenging quests and the ability to plunder merchant convoys, trade goods and conquer and manage colonies.

There are 16 different sail ships, day and night cycles with varying weather conditions and multiplayer battle modes for up to 16 players, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Defend the Convoy and Capture the Fort.

"We are very excited that Atari is our distribution partner for Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales," added Stefan Layer, Playlogic's VP and chief marketing and sales officer.

"Atari has an excellent worldwide distribution network, a highly motivated team and the right marketing approach."

The game is scheduled for release in September, and will be exclusively distributed by Atari throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
