Arcades to boost Capcom earnings?

Company to open eight new centres and close three before March 2008

Capcom, which reported its first half financial results last week and noted a 70 per cent drop in arcade revenues, is to take steps to address the slide - including closing down unprofitable centres and opening a number of new ones.

President of the company, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, pinpointed the cause for the plummeting numbers: "It's all about the location."

According to a report on Bloomberg, Capcom will close three unprofitable centres and instead open eight new ones which will target a different demographic - that of women and families, in order to better compete with the impact of the Nintendo Wii.

While the company's financial results were buoyed by the performance of its videogame franchises, most notably Resident Evil for the Wii, it has a long history in the arcade market.
