Apple: "We're waiting for Blu-ray to take off"

Apple is waiting until Blu-ray "takes off in the market place" before it pursues licensing options for its laptops, according to CEO Steve Jobs who spoke at the company's 'the spotlight turns to notebooks' event.

"Blu-ray is just a bag of hurt," stated Jobs. "It's great to watch the movies, but the licensing of the tech is so complex, we're waiting till things settle down and Blu-ray takes off in the marketplace."

Earlier this year, Blu-ray won the format war against Microsoft's chosen format of HD DVD and it was further revealed adoption rates were outpacing those of DVD at the same point in its life-cycle.

Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Microsoft's Xbox 360 would be getting an external Blu-ray disc player, with Toshiba being contacted to construct the drive.
