Apple unveils iPhone

Long-rumoured entry in mobile market shown at Macworld Expo

Apple has unveiled the long-rumoured iPhone, marking the company's first serious entry into the mobile market.

Revealed at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, Apple boss Steve Jobs claimed the device will "revolutionise the industry."

The phone will retail for US $599 (EUR 462) and is due for North America in June, with a European launch planned later this year.

The touch screen, 11.6mm-thick phone comes in two models (with 4GB and 8GB of storage), along with a built-in 2 megapixel camera, and is also able to download music and videos.

"The iPod changed everything in 2001. We're going to do it again with the iPhone in 2007," said Jobs.
