Activision's Q2 revenues slip

But beat expectations by 45 per cent

Activision's net revenue for the second quarter ending September 2006 have dropped to US $188.2 million, down from US $222.5 million during the same period in 2005.

Although the figures have slipped, the publisher has performed better than the expected US $130 million outlook, ending the quarter with US $747 million in cash and short-term investments.

"Our second quarter net revenues exceeded our expectation and were driven by improving market conditions and the success of our franchises including Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and World Series of Poker, as well as our distribution and affiliate businesses," said Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision.

"We are excited about the long-term opportunities that should result from the next-generation consoles and handheld platforms," added Kotick, as the publisher looks to support new home consoles with a range of products in Q3.

These include Tony Hawk's Project 8, Call of Duty 3 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance for PS3 and Xbox 360, as well as five titles for the Nintendo Wii: Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam, Call of Duty 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Rapala Tournament Fishing and World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions.
