Activision Blizzard in iTunes model move?

Activision Blizzard CEO Robert Kotick has suggested that one possible move for the company in the future is to look at launching a rival to Apple's iTunes music download service, particularly to synch into products such as Guitar Hero.

"When you think about the potential for what we will be able to do together, there have not been many viable alternatives to iTunes," he told Reuters. "Not to give you something that's a concrete plan, but more speculate about opportunities for the future.

"If you're downloading a song to play on your Guitar Hero, there's no reason why you can't download the performance also. So there's all kinds of things you can think about."

He also said that he believes the new company will face strong competition from traditional media companies in the future, such as Time Warner Inc - Warner Bros recently bought UK developer Traveller's Tales - and Walt Disney Co, which also owns significant videogame holdings.
