Acclaim to offer disk versions of online games

Large file size prompted consumer requests

Acclaim Games is partnering with SwiftCD.com to offer physical delivery of Acclaim's multiplayer online games which were previously available only via download.

Once known for its console titles, Acclaim reorganised itself around digital delivery of MMO games such as BOTS!! and 9Dragons. The games will still be available for free download, but can now be obtained on CD or DVD as well.

The large file sizes of the games - 9Dragons is reportedly over 700MB - prompted customers to request an alternative to downloading.

"Offering a physical delivery option ensures that everyone who is interested in experiencing the magic Acclaim has created will have the chance to play these amazing games," said Jason Foodman, CEO of SwiftCD.com.

Acclaim will offer a CD or DVD option for each of the downloads on its website. Although the games themselves are free, consumers who want the physical media will still be responsible for shipping and handling.
