$40 million budget for US Wii Fit launch

According to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, Nintendo has set aside a USD 40 million war chest for marketing ahead of the US launch of Wii Fit.

And he believes that the physical fitness title, due for release in North America on May 19, could also sell as many as 4 million units if marketed properly, reports the New York Post.

That would rank it up among the best-selling titles of 2007, with Halo 3 selling 4.8 million, Wii Play selling 4.1 million, and Call of Duty 4 selling 3 million.

The game, which has already sold 1.5 million units in Japan since launch, is due for release in Europe at the earlier date of April 25.

"When I lived in the US, I had a habit of checking GamesIndustry.biz first thing in the morning for the latest news, to take advantage of the site's base in Europe. After I moved to Japan, I still find myself checking the site first thing in the morning. I presume this is due to the quality of articles and opinion pieces, as much as great industry news coverage."
