PUBG, Rainbow Six, Rocket League, Warframe and Ark top 2017 global Steam rankings

Valve also reveals most popular VR games

Steam has revealed its charts for 2017, including most played, top selling, best selling Early Access titles, and the most popular VR games on the platform.

The firm has once again decided not to rank the titles, and instead have put them into categories of 'platinum', 'gold' and 'silver' to represent the sales bands in which they fall. Therefore, the lists are in no particular order.

The 'Platinum' Top Sellers (by revenue) include:

Counter-Strike Global Offensive
H1Z1
Grand Theft Auto V
Ark: Survival Evolved
Divinity: Original Sin II
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
Dota 2
Rainbow Six: Siege
Warframe
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands
Rocket League
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt

As a comparison, Call of Duty: WWII, Assassin's Creed Origins, Fallout 4, Sellaris, For Honor, Dark Souls III, Nier Automata, Total War Warhammer, Civilisation VI and Arma III were among the 'gold' sellers. And 'Silver' sellers included Sniper 4, Total War: Warhammer II, Planet Coaster, Cities Skylines, Dead by Daylight, XCOM 2, Cuphead, Final Fantasy XIV Online and Resident Evil VII.

The Top Early Access Graduates in 2017 (games that left Early Access, and as measured by gross revenue) were:

The Gold Category included LEGO Worlds, Forest Village, Raw Data, Deceit, YouTubers Life Xmas Special, Niche, Darkwood, Tree of Life, American Civil War, Battle Brothers, Road Redemption and Starpoint Gemini Warlords.

And the Silver category included Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, The Culling, Overgrowth, Party Panic, Dead Effect 2 VR, Hover, Kindergarten, White Noise 2 and Blitzkrieg 3.

Valve also revealed the best-selling VR games on steam.

The Platinum Category included:

Job Simulator
AudioShield
Space Pirate Trainer
Hot Dogs, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades
Arizona Sunshine
Tilt Brush (by Google)
Fallout 4 VR

Those games beat the Gold category titles, which included Virtual Desktop, Dead Effect 2 VR, Vanishing Realms, Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, Pavlov, The Talos Principle, I Expect You To Die, Batman: Arkham VR and Quiver.

In Silver, there are The Wizards, Dreadhalls, Airmech Command, Overkill VR, Hover Junkers, Form, Bullets and More, VR: The Diner Duo, Knockout League and Holopoint.

Finally, Valve also revealed the games with the most simultaneous players.

Platinum (over 100,000 simultaneous players):

And the Silver Category (over 25,000 simultaneous players), featured Fallout 4, 7 Days to Die, The Division, XCOM 2, For Honor, Final Fantasy XIV Online, Assassin's Creed Origins, Battlerite, Terraria, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Black Desert Online, Civilisation VI, Counter-Strike, Stellaris, Stardew Valley, Killing Floor 2 and more.
