Julian Gollop's Phoenix Point funded within a week

X-Com creator adds two stretch goals as Fig donations continue to roll in

The latest project from experienced developer Julian Gollop has smashed its crowdfunding target in less than seven days.

The Fig campaign for Phoenix Point stated an initial goal of $500,000, and just under 7,000 backers have driven the total raised above that within the first week. Gollop and his team expressed their gratitude via the latest campaign update.

"We would like to thank all our backers who have made this project possible," the team wrote. "Now we are going to make an awesome game for you."

With 36 days still left on the crowdfunding push, Gollop and co are still keen to secure as much backing as possible. Two new stretch goals have been added, promising drivabe vehicles if the project reaches $650,000 and a floating fortress if it reaches $850,000.

Phoenix Point is a new sci-fi strategy game drawing on Gollop's experience with the popular X-Com series. Last week, he told us in an interview that $500,000 was "the absolute minimum necessary" to make a quality title of this type.

He also stressed that the crowdfunding campaign was an "all-or-nothing, make-or-break decision for the studio". It's safe to say any concerns were unfounded.
