Simplygon co-founder Martin Ekdal departs
He promises to remain in the games industry following Microsoft acquisition
One of the co-founders of Simplygon - Martin Ekdal - has left the tools firm.
It follows Microsoft's acquisition of the company last month. He wasn't part of the acquisition announcement, which did feature CEO Matt Connors, Founder & CTO Ulrik Lindahl, and Co-Founder Koshi Hamedi. Ekdal served as VP of business development for the company.
"The time has come for me to move on to new adventures," he said in an email to partners. "I will take a few weeks off to "land" and spend time with the family before looking around for a new mission. I really love the games industry and I will do my best to remain part of it, as an entrepreneur, consultant, or perhaps even a game maker."
Simplygon was founded in 2006 by Swedish firm Donya Labs AB and its tools have been used to streamline assets in numerous AAA titles, including The Witcher 3, Forza Horizon, Resident Evil 7, Eve Valkyrie and PlayStation VR experiences as well.
Following the acquisition on January 17th, the Simplygon team said that the "next challenge is 3D For Everyone, the ultimate accessibility."
