The Last Guardian delayed again

Fumito Ueda's follow-up to Shadow of the Colossus pushed back to December launch

Sony has delayed The Last Guardian yet again. The long-in-development title from the company's Japan Studio and Fumito Ueda's genDESIGN has been pushed from its October 25 release date to December 6. SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida called it a "tough decision" in his announcement on the PlayStation Blog.

"A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development," Yoshida said. "To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game's creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues."

Sony announced The Last Guardian for the PlayStation 3 in 2009, with an expected release in 2011. However, development was slow to progress, and the game soon became repeatedly and conspicuously absent from Sony's lineup of promoted titles at big events like E3. In 2011, Ueda left Sony, and while the company said it was committed to completing The Last Guardian with Ueda working as a contractor, it went mum on the project for a prolonged period.

The Last Guardian resurfaced at E3 2015 as a PS4 game, and was given the October release date at this year's E3.
