Deus Ex tops the UK retail chart

Square Enix has taken the number one spot in the UK retail chart with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which unseated F1 2016 despite selling in lower quantities than its predecessor, Human Revolution.

According to a report from Gfk Chart-Track, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which was published in 2011, enjoyed a "much stronger" first week on sale. There could be numerous reasons for that decline in performance, but it's worth noting that Mankind Divided hasn't received quite as much praise from the critics as its predecessor: an average score of 82 at the time of writing, versus an average score of 90.

Another factor could be the greater importance of digital sales on both console and PC. At the time of writing, Steam Spy estimated that Mankind Divided had 265,000 owners.

Nevertheless, it was enough to secure Deus Ex the top spot, an accolade that three other new entries into the top ten failed to achieve: EA's Madden NFL 16, which finished the week in fifth place, 505 Games' Assetto Corsa, which landed in eighth, and Koei Tecmo's AOT Wings of Freedom, which occupied the final spot.
