Skylanders TV show lands on Netflix

Streaming service will offer two seasons of Skylanders Academy; premiere set for this fall

Skylanders has gone from toys-to-life to game-to-show. Activision Blizzard and Netflix today announced an agreement to air two seasons of the animated TV show Skylanders Academy on the streaming video service.

The first season will be added to the Netflix catalog this fall, with the follow-up running in late 2017. It was one of six new or returning childrens' shows confirmed by Netflix today, including Spy Kids: Mission Critical and adaptations of Hilda and Llama Llama.

"At Netflix, we invest in stories that our members will love and cherish," Netflix director of global kids content Andy Yeatman said. "This passion for discovering great storytelling extends to what we offer our youngest members, and we're excited today to announce a lineup of original shows that will bring a number of well-known and beloved characters to kids and families around the globe."

Skylanders Academy is the first project from Activision Blizzard Studios, the television and film division set up by the publisher last year. The next endeavor on the slate for Activision Blizzard is a "cinematic universe" based on its hit military shooter franchise Call of Duty.
