Watch Sony's E3 2016 livestream here

It's a big night for PSVR as Sony tries to top last year's bombshell trio of The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Shenmue III

Sony wraps up the E3 press briefing schedule Monday night, and at the risk of over-hyping, what it shows could be crucial for the future of virtual reality. The consumer launches of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive earlier this year didn't exactly kickstart a mainstream VR revolution, but Sony's comparatively inexpensive PlayStation VR could be just the thing to push mass market awareness and adoption of the tech. With a PSVR launch set for October, the E3 show could be Sony's best chance to put forward a convincing argument that the lineup of games and the quality of the experiences will justify a $399 price tag on top of the cost of a PlayStation 4.

Of course, the PSVR is just going to be one part of the show, as Sony no doubt aims to extend the PlayStation 4's current sales momentum. The company has already confirmed that has a new, more powerful PlayStation 4K in the works, but it won't be shown at E3. That leaves the possibility of a slimmed-down version of the hardware, and of course, loads of new games. However, Sony may have a hard time topping its E3 2015 games lineup, when it showcased a trio of long-demanded and/or assumed dead games in The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Shenmue III. Still, new looks at those games, additional peeks at Horizon: Zero Dawn, No Man's Sky and Gravity Rush 2, and a few surprise game announcements could be enough to send crowds home happy.

You can find out exactly what Sony has in store right here when the press conference kicks off at 6 p.m. Pacific, 9 p.m. Eastern, and 2 a.m. BST.
