Fun Bits offers grants to LGBT students in Mississippi
Offers a proactive response to new discriminatory law
Seattle developer Fun Bits, best known for its Fat Princess games, is offering grants to LGBT high school students in Mississippi.
The company made the announcement on its Facebook page:
"Fun Bits is offering two $1000 College Scholarship award grants to any current LGBT High School student graduating in 2016, living in Mississippi and looking to study Art and/or Video Game creation at any 2 or 4-year College or University outside of Mississippi," it posted today.
It then added note in the comments:
"While it may not be a complete solution, ever little bit helps - $1,000 can help with laundry, rent, commuting, books, food, etc. - all of these are 'college expenses'. This is not a full ride scholarship, as we are simply not in that position, however this is pretty much free money to help passionate hard-working students pursue their dreams, without suffering through the backlash of laws marginalizing their best efforts."
We can assume the studio was reffering to a new and controversial "religious freedom" bill passed in Mississippi that allows the lawful discrimination of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
Details of how to apply are on the Facebook page, and Fun Bits is also looking for additional donors to increase the grant amount.
