FIFA 16's week one UK sales down versus FIFA 15

Unit sales slip 7 per cent, but EA's franchise still claims the UK number one

The fact that FIFA 16 debuted at the top the UK retail chart is hardly a surprise, but the fact that it sold fewer copies than its predecessor might raise a few eyebrows.

According to data released by Ukie and Gfk Chart-Track, FIFA 16 marked a 7 per cent drop in unit sales after FIFA 15's first week, though sales of more expensive SKUs kept the revenue shortfall to just 4 per cent.

This slight dip may be due to the transition of console players from one generation to the next. With FIFA 15, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 accounted for 45 per cent of sales, versus 19 per cent for FIFA 16.

The week's other big new release was Skylanders Superchargers, the fifth release under the Skylanders brand, which entered the chart in fourth place - three places higher than Trap Team last year.
