Donkey Kong Wii U beaten to Japanese number one

Tropical Freeze frozen out in another strong week for Dragon Quest Monsters

The Wii U exclusive Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze failed to unseat Dragon Quest Monsters 2 at the top of the Japanese chart last week.

Donkey Kong Country sold 35,000 units in its first week on the software chart, a stark reflection of the performance of its native platform, which sold less than 9,000 units.

The most popular game was Square Enix's Dragon Quest Monsters 2, which added another 118,000 units to the 560,000 it sold in its debut week. Again, this is reflected in the sales of the 3DS, with the 3DS XL still untroubled at the top of the hardware chart.

The software top 10 is below, with lifetime sales in parentheses:

  • 1. [3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca's Wonderful Mysterious Keys (Square Enix, 02/06/14) - 118,427 (562,083)
