Pitchford: I'm not going to f*** around with you like Valve

Gearbox boss makes it clear that Borderlands 3 isn't in development

President of Gearbox Software Randy Pitchford has offered a forthright summary on the studios latest projects, and made it clear that for now Borderlands 3 isn't among them.

"I'm not going to fuck around with you like Valve does with Half-Life 3," he told Polygon.

"Look. We know we want it and we know it should exist, but we don't know what it is yet. But we are doing things in Borderlands that we'll announce soon, that are good, and that I think people will be really excited about if you love the franchise."

He did reveal that the company's current list of projects includes Furious Four, a new Brothers in Arms title, three Homeworld titles and two new games based on new IP.

"He's overspent because he wants to right by his own interest in the property," added Pitchford, referring to Homeworld and Gearbox founder Brian Martel. Gearbox acquired the IP last April beating TeamPixel, Paradox Interactive and Stardock.

"We invested a lot to remaster the original Homeworld and Homeworld 2. We'll be releasing them on digital platforms in fully remastered - not just ported to work, but fully remastered. If you have a new crazy-ass Nvidia 780TI or an Nvidia Titan and you happen to have one of those $3,000 4K monitors, you're going to see an unbelievable image."

I will, instead, sell you Aliens: Colonial Marines like if it were the ultimate nirvana, so you will pay full price for a half-baked piece of junk advertised with trailers full of footage that is not implemented in the actual final game and, after that, I'll come back here to play the "Cool and awesome guy" with you.

Sorry Randy. Those jokes are no longer appropriate in your case.

Beat me to it Alfonso :)
Randy has a lot of shit to shovel before he's trusted again, the commotion was such with ACM that their pre-orders will most likely be affected for some time regardless of:
fully remastered - not just ported to work, but fully remastered. If you have a new crazy-ass Nvidia 780TI or an Nvidia Titan (...), you're going to see an unbelievable image."
...how much sugar coating you put on top of it.

You shake your head how kids can fall for a Justin Bieber game or something down that vein and the next thing you know, you leave the store having bought some Aliens game. As a generation, we either have to draw a line in the sand, or we are all going to end up in a cafeteria fistfight in some retirement home over Aliens vs. Robocop 2060.

While I agree he is hardly one to talk I have to admit my goodwill towards valve is wearing mightily thin. Especially after the non event that Steambox appears to be. Wouldn't mind if they finally did pull their finger out on this. Probably an impatient and unfair view on my part I fully admit :)

Perhaps patience is better word. Besides as I said. It's very much a personal feeling and not one that maybe justified. That said it's reaching the point where if Half Life 3 is ever released it will go from the eagerly anticipated sequel to the resurrection of a long dormant franchise.

I donít wait for Borderlands 3. The best part of Borderlands 2 was the opening song. The story was "funny" but the gameplay was repetitive and boring. The last good game from gearbox was HL: Blueshift in my opinion.

I rely hope for a good Homeworld game but i doubt GB can deliver it. This "hype" Pitchford is building reminds me of AC and DNF..

well... I dont recall Valve fucking around with anyone. They just decided not to make a sequel to a game that ended on a huge cliffhanger, leaving everyone hanging. But thats ok. Its there game they can end it however they feel like, and its all OK. Because ending a story half way through on a huge cliffhanger is cool to do... right?

And regarding gear box with Aliens Colonal Marines which was decieving and Duke Nukem Forever which was 15 years in the making... id rather not go there.

Christian: I guess you never played Half Life 2 Ep 2.

The storyline clearly signals a sequel, ending on a cliffhanger.

I assumed Valve were making Half Life 3 in secret, with confidentiality clauses for the team etc. They have to be doing something, every day, for years and years. When it comes out it will no doubt astound everyone, like 1 and 2.

At the very least they would be doing experiments, prototypes etc and hopefully, eventually fashioning part 3 out of it all. I hope.
