$10 billion spent in App Store in 2013

Apple reveals $1 billion spent in December alone

Apple has revealed that its App Store customers spent over $10 billion last year, with $1 billion of that total paid out in December alone.

"We'd like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store," said Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue.

"The line-up of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014."

During the announcement Apple gave special shout outs to some of its biggest hits, which included the games Heads Up, Impossible Road, Candy Crush Saga, Puzzles & Dragons, Minecraft, QuizUp and Clumsy Ninja.

Last year Apple also named Ridiculous Fishing by Vlambeer its iPhone Game of the Year. Frogmind's Badland was named the iPad Game of the Year.
