IGF finalists named

Field of 656 entrants whittled down to dozens as DEVICE 6, Papers, Please, and Dominique Pamplemousse garner four nods each

The Independent Games Festival today named its finalists for the 2014 IGF Main Competition awards, along with honorable mentions who just missed the final cut for each category.

Three games tied for most nominations with four each: Simogo's surreal iOS thriller DEVICE 6, Lucas Pope's "dystopian document thriller" Papers, Please, and Dominique Pamplemousse in "It's All Over Once the Fat Lady Sings!", which developer Deirdra Kiai describes as "an offbeat musical detective game." DEVICE 6 even garnered honorable mentions in the only two categories for which it wasn't a finalist.

As might be expected, all three of the quadruple nominated games are up for The Seumas McNally Grand Prize. They will be competing for that honor against Galactic Café's experimental first-person exploration game The Stanley Parable, Klei Entertainment's wilderness survival game Don't Starve, and Necrophone Games' adventure comedy Jazzpunk.

All told, 656 games were submitted for consideration in this year's IGF Awards. The winners will be named March 19. As in previous years, the awards will be doled out in a ceremony at San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center, immediately preceding the Game Developers Choice Awards.
