Xbox servers temporarily down on eve of Xbox One launch

Xbox Live, Xbox.com and just about everything Xbox appears to be offline for unknown reasons right now [UPDATE: It's back online now and MS investigating]

Update 2: “Microsoft can confirm that all online services have been restored. We are investigating the root cause of the disruption and will continue to keep customers updated as information becomes available,” a Microsoft spokesperson told us this evening.

Update: Although it's still unclear what happened, Xbox.com and related servers appear to be online and functioning normally again. Crisis averted... we think. We'll be sure to update again if Microsoft explains what caused the downtime.

Original story:

With mere hours to go before the very first Xbox One sale in the US, it appears that everything Xbox related has gone offline. Xbox.com won't load, Xbox Live looks to be down, Outlook.com is down, and more. The timing of everything going down is ominous, to say the least. At 11PM Eastern, SpikeTV, Xbox Live and Xbox.com are scheduled to air a special on the Xbox One launch. On top of that, when the clock strikes midnight, many gamers will be walking away with new Xbox One units that require a massive day one update before they can be used.

We've reached out to several Xbox PR representatives about the downtime, whether Microsoft is the victim of an attack or if it's some scheduled maintenance perhaps.
