Sony opens PlayStation Vita Indies Games category

53 indie games are welcomed to the PS Vita

Sony Computer Entertainment of America has announced that the Indie Games category on the PlayStation Vita's PlayStation Store is now open. The category opened on PlayStation 3 at the beginning of May.

53 titles are present at the launch of the Indie Games category, including Hotline Miami, Guacamelee, Thomas Was Alone, Sound Shapes, Sine Mora, Dragon Fantasy, and Limbo. More indies titles like Spelunky, Terraria, Hohokum, and Luftrausers are coming soon. A number of the titles are cross-buy, meaning purchasing the PS Vita version gets you the PS3 version as well.

"At PlayStation, we're proud to support indie development, and our unrestrictive policies make it easier than ever for developers to launch games on PS Vita. We recognize that the unique perspective that indie developers deliver contributes to the success and future of the gaming industry. And we've learned as much from working with talented indie developers over the last several years as (we hope) they have learned from us," wrote SCEA director of Product Planning & Platform Software Innovation Don Mesa in a post on the official US PlayStation blog.

M.H. Williams is new to the journalism game, but he's been a gamer since the NES first graced American shores. Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
