Sony won't give up on the catdogbird adventure

It's the catdogbird that just won't die. Shuhei Yoshida, president of Worldwide Studios at Sony Computer Entertainment has reassured gamers that The Last Guardian is still in development, despite conflicting Sony reports this week.

"It's alive and kicking in terms of development," he told CVG.

"If you visit Japan Studio there are lots of people working on it. But as [designer Fumito Ueda] shared with people a couple of months ago, we really want to be confident next time when we introduce The Last Guardian to the public, so we are waiting for that time to come."

This somewhat contradicts a comment by Sony Computer Entertainment America president and CEO Jack Tretton yesterday, "The Last Guardian is certainly not going away but it is on hiatus right now."

But followers of the game should hardly be surprised, since its reveal at E3 2009 there have been far more stories about its delays and technical difficulties than there have been any signs of life.

Sony Santa Monica denied working on it, creative lead Fumito Ueda has left Sony (but apparently continued to work on the game on a contract basis) and Yoshida has cited "technical difficulties" as part of the reason for the delay.

At this point this is either the LAST great PS3 game or a really awesome PS4 game. I just want to hear the long development story one of these days after it ships out. Hell, at this point it HAS to come as a retail as well as digital game, as I can't see this sliding onto PSN only as some quiet download that only gets a handful of hype and a 15-second TV spot...

I think they may as well switch generations, the game isn't ready and there's a new console on the horizon. Do a Versus XIII in a sense... Both great ideas announced a long time ago but experiencing a development nightmare.

After hearing MGSV is coming to PS3 and PS4 (and 360/One), I wonder if the Last Guardian will do the same? I'm glad to hear they're still working on it in any case, I really hope they see it through.

I think this game is in development hell, and what does release will likely not meet the lofty expectations.

@Nicholas: i edited that part out of my post, but I more or less agree to some extent. Granted, the game hasn't been shown in a while, so we may be incorrect and crow-eating fools here. But I think the combo of those ICO/SotC fans expecting a triple dip into "perfection" and the concept maybe running out of gas somewhere along the line might make for an overall good, but not "great" game.

Off to check my crow pie supply in the freezer, as I may need to restock...

It will most likely be Next Gen, like Final Fantasy versus 13(15)

They doctor around on this title for so longnow, moved specialists back and forth and tried to overcome several (unknown) hurdles. Can it ever run a profit now?

After how good The Last of Us was, these guys can take as much time as they need to perfect this game. Cannot wait to play it! :)
