Warren Spector to write for GamesIndustry International

Warren Spector to write for GamesIndustry International

Tue 02 Apr 2013 3:27pm GMT / 11:27am EDT / 8:27am PDT

We're proud to announce that the veteran designer will be kicking off a monthly column

With Disney unfortunately having shuttered Junction Point, long-time game designer Warren Spector has more free time on his hands, and today we're pleased to announce that part of that time will be spent writing an exclusive monthly column for GamesIndustry International.

Spector's last several years at Junction Point were spent making the Epic Mickey games, but he's perhaps more famously known for his work on games like System Shock and Deus Ex. Spector has always been one of the more outspoken veterans of the business, engaging audiences at events like DICE Summit and Game Developer's Conference and asking them to think about the meaning behind the games they're making. At this year's DICE, he said developers should start thinking about their legacy in the industry, and just last week at GDC, Spector discussed how to pick and choose what elements game designers should be borrowing from other media like film and television.

Similar to his talks at events, Spector's column for GamesIndustry International will dive into serious subjects about the industry and will pose questions that Spector himself may not have the answers to. The first column will be posted this week. Stay tuned.

Nice. I've only had the chance to speak to him in person once and my brain was happier because the man has a knack for making you think about games in a few different ways. Still, I'd love to see him get back into making something interactive at some point... Looking forward to the column!
