Blizzard has announced that the real-money auction house (RMAH) for Diablo III has launched in North America. The US dollar, Mexican peso, and Australian dollar are all currently supported, with support for the EU region coming soon.

Using the RMAH requires that a player has a authenticator attached to their account. In addition, if a player decides to use PayPal, then they must also activate the Battle.Net SMS Protection feature.

Only weapons and armor are available on the RMAH at this time, with commodities being added later. Further information about Diablo III's new system can be found here.

Im very interested to see how this goes. Im already a bit annoyed at the current state of the late game and fear they might have misbalanced inferno act2 onwards so badly on purpous to get people to spend money on the RMAH...

The fact you can't really finish the game through solo play as the items dropped aren't good enough in Act 1 to continue, means you need to farm enough money to buy a slightly better weapon or piece of armour, which for most people isn't an option thus meaning the RMAH becomes the option you have to take to finish the game properly.

Blizzard appear to be addressing the item drops somewhat in Inferno, by giving a chance for higher 'item level' stuff to drop in the earlier acts of Inferno, rather than restricting all the best stuff until later on. It's a small chance, but there at least will be a chance of it dropping in patch 1.03.

They've also said the following regarding Inferno Act II onwards:

"Inferno balance right now has a difficulty gap in which Act I feels about right, but Act II feels like trying to bust through a brick wall. In patch 1.0.3 we’re going to be lowering that wall by adjusting the damage and health of monsters in Inferno Act II, III and IV."

I really hope, the dupe problems in Korea haven't appeared in the US. Otherwise some users of the rmah might get some headache. This thing is a beast ....
