Blizzard has announced that the real-money auction house (RMAH) for Diablo III has launched in North America. The US dollar, Mexican peso, and Australian dollar are all currently supported, with support for the EU region coming soon.
Using the RMAH requires that a player has a authenticator attached to their account. In addition, if a player decides to use PayPal, then they must also activate the Battle.Net SMS Protection feature.
Only weapons and armor are available on the RMAH at this time, with commodities being added later. Further information about Diablo III's new system can be found here.

Im very interested to see how this goes. Im already a bit annoyed at the current state of the late game and fear they might have misbalanced inferno act2 onwards so badly on purpous to get people to spend money on the RMAH...
The fact you can't really finish the game through solo play as the items dropped aren't good enough in Act 1 to continue, means you need to farm enough money to buy a slightly better weapon or piece of armour, which for most people isn't an option thus meaning the RMAH becomes the option you have to take to finish the game properly.
